How to Select Inline Ultrasonic Flowmeter?

At first beginning, ultrasonic flow meter is famous for its clamp on installing features, but later as technology development of ultrasonic flow meter, insertion wetter and inline ultrasonic flow meters have been released to meet different requirement. Comparing with clamp on flow meter and insertion flow meter, inline ultrasonic flow meter is more simple to install. As inline flow meter has an exact pipe size, its calibration is more accurate and the accuracy can be better. Here mainly introduce some things about the selection of inline ultrasonic flow meters.

Inline ultrasonic flow meters usually have two kinds: one is integrated type and the other is separated type. The first one refers to the whole meter is wholly welded, and the latter refers to the main converter and inline transducers are separating and they are connected by cable transducers. Where and when should select integrated type or separated type? This is not absolute.  But usually if the installing environment is very moist or pipe size is big, separated type is a better choice.

Inline ultrasonic flow meters’ power supply may be different. For example, we have two version inline flowmeters, one is only DC power and the other is DC power/battery power. But for the first one, it has local key and doesn’t need external keypad. The latter one has no local keys and only supports local windows viewing by magnet rod or magnet bar. Thus, users need to have a comprehensive consideration to select it.

Body material of inline ultrasonic flow meters are different and have various material.  For example, our inline ultrasonic flow meters have carbon steel material, stainless steel material and brass material. For small size inline flowmeters, we can supply brass material for low cost purpose and stainless steel material for higher class application. But some companies even use whole ABS material for ultrasonic water meter, this is not a better solution. Because it can’t ensure solid status like metal material.

Structure of inline meters are different for small pipe size and bigger pipe size. For small pipe size, usually refer to pipe size  DN15-DN40mm, their structure is different from that of pipe size DN50 and above. Meanwhile, their connection way is different, that for small size is thread screw connection and bigger size is flange connection way.

Different pipe material should also be noted.  Metal pipe material includes iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminium, etc. Non-metal pipe materials includes PVC,PE, plastic, glass, cement, glass fiber reinforced plastics, etc.

Thus, when select inline ultrasonic flow meter, users should know the following things:

1.Nominal Pipe size (DN)

2. Pipe material

3.Integrated type or separated type

4. Max working pressure

5.Fluid

6.Fluid temperature range

7.Max flow rate (Qmax), Min flow rate (Qmin)

8.Pipe wall thickness

9.Power supply

Inline ultrasonic flow meter is an important constituent part of ultrasonic flow meter, thus, it is necessary to know its features so that to better selection of it.
